Construction has officially commenced on the new Yadu Health Centre in Ceduna, marking a significant milestone in the delivery of improved healthcare services for Aboriginal communities on the Far West Coast. The project, jointly funded by the Federal Government, the South Australian State Government, and Yadu Aboriginal Health Corporation, will provide culturally appropriate and fit-for-purpose health infrastructure within the Ceduna Hospital Precinct.
A soil-turning ceremony was recently held to commemorate the beginning of works, attended by South Australian Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Kyam Maher, who highlighted the project’s impact in strengthening health services for Aboriginal people in the State’s far west. Federal Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, Ged Kearney, also acknowledged the significance of the project, stating that the new facility will be a place where lives will be saved, health outcomes improved, and care provided in a culturally safe environment.
Yanun is proudly engaged as client-side project managers, working alongside a consultant team including Das Studios, Future Urban, Bestec, MLEI, and BCA Concepts to oversee the project’s delivery. Fusco Constructions has been appointed as the contractor for the project, overseeing the construction of the new facility comprising consultation rooms for primary healthcare services, a dental treatment space, rooms for visiting specialists, and dedicated areas for staff and training. The development follows an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase, transitioning into a Design and Construct (D&C) contract to ensure efficiency and continuity throughout construction.
With construction now underway, the new health centre is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026 and will support some 1,300 Aboriginal people living in the Far West region of SA, including large communities in Ceduna, Koonibba, Yalata, Oak Valley, and Scotdesco, as well as many homelands.
Yadu Aboriginal Corporation CEO, Torrien Lau, emphasised the importance of the development, stating, “With increased space, improved resources, and state-of-the-art medical facilities, this clinic will empower our people to take charge of their health and wellbeing… We are proud of the legacy we are building together, ensuring that our children, Elders, and families have access to quality healthcare.”
