In a major step forward for one of Adelaide’s oldest and most respected sporting clubs, Torrensville Bowling Club has officially opened the doors to its brand-new home at Thebarton. Relocated due to the South Road upgrade as part of the North-South Corridor project, the club has now settled into a purpose-built facility designed to support its long-term future and growing membership.
Located on the scenic banks of the River Torrens at 2 Dennis Mutton Drive, the new facility—now proudly known as the RiverDome—represents a $9.6 million investment from the South Australian Government. The move ensures that the club, which has been part of the Adelaide community for more than a century, continues to thrive in a modern environment without losing its proud identity.
The upgraded venue features 24 synthetic bowling rinks, with half of them housed under a striking dome structure that allows for year-round play, rain or shine. The dome itself was carefully dismantled and relocated from the club’s previous site, a nod to both sustainability and heritage preservation.
Inside, members and guests will find a significantly larger and more versatile clubhouse. Key features include:
- A spacious function room with seating for over 100 people.
- A commercial kitchen and licensed bar facilities.
- Outdoor alfresco areas that overlook the rinks and riverfront.
- High-end audio-visual capabilities, including a 65-inch smart TV and UHD projector—ideal for club events and private functions.
Brenton Rolton, Club President, said the new facility is a dream realised. “We’ve been working towards this outcome for years, and to see it come to life is incredibly rewarding. It secures our future, supports our members, and allows us to grow even further.”
More than just a sports venue, the new Torrensville Bowling Club is also a social hub, welcoming local residents, corporate groups, and community organisations. The club’s upgraded capacity and flexible event spaces are expected to support a range of uses well beyond bowls.
The project was successfully delivered with Yanun Project Services serving as Superintendents, ensuring the transition from the former site to the new RiverDome was managed smoothly, on time, and to the highest standards.
The new location also benefits from its riverside setting, with improved pedestrian and cycling access that links into broader urban renewal efforts in the area.
